Carb kit info needed

I have a Tohatsu 40hp, model M40C, that I think is a 1993. It starts hard, will not stay running at low idle speeds, and is almost impossible to start when it is warm. I was planning on cleaning the carb and putting in a carb kit. The local dealer is, well, I'll say that he is interesting, and leave it at that. Nothing in stock, if you want to order something, bring in the part number you want, and he will try to get it for you. I tried, no luck there, so I went on-line to see what I can find. At one location, I came up with Sierra kit #18-7740. Looks like the right one to me, but I checked with the store, and they said that I need #18-7290 for this motor. Can any one tell me what part number is the correct one?

Thanks,
Stephen

Normal is just a setting on they dryer.

As a dealer, we don't get involved in the aftermarket bits as long as OEM is still available. The Tohatsu part you need is Part# 345871223M, $54.74, available from any dealer, including me.

Aftermarket is rarely up to the same quality standard as OEM. Like Paul said, visit a Nissan or Tohatsu dealer or order an OEM kit online from one of the OEM parts ho's.

Paul, thank you. I would rather have the OEM parts, but as I say, I have had a hard time finding one. I did find out that there is a new dealer in the area, and I will give them a call on Monday. If they can't help me, I will give you a shout and order one.

Thanks again.

Re: Carb kit info needed

OK, now I am REALLY confused. How many carb kits does this motor take? I have one dealer telling me it takes one, and another telling me it takes two. I am pretty sure when I pulled the cover, there was only one carb. Did I miss one, or is this guy thinking of a different motor than the one I have, or do I need two kits for the type of carb/motor that I have?
Thanks for your help!

THANK YOU!!! I was pretty sure that I only saw one carb. But, I have been wrong once or twice in the past. If you want to know when, give my kids or wife a call, I am sure they will fill you in :) I did not want to give them any more ammunition, so to speak. Thanks again for the help.
