Did an R&R on the carb. Fired it up and all is well. Went to use it a few days later and now I see a slight drip. Are the only 2 places it can leak from the gas inlet line and the base? Also, when installing the gas line to the carb is a sealer or some kind of washer supposed to go on as well. When I removed it i didn't see anything. Thanks for your help.

Re: Carb Leak

Where exactly is the drip you are noticing?

Do not use sealer or tape. The connections have to be really tight. There is a gasket between the "big" fitting and the carb bowl, be sure it is there. The flare on the fuel line and the inside of the inlet fitting that the flare mates up to must both be smooth and free of burrs.

Whan a carb is older then fuel can find it's way out via the throttle plate bushings in the base. This fuel is from accel pump shots and any fuel mist that did not get consumed. The loose fitting bushings are also a source of vacuum leak.

Thanks for the answers. There are no burrs and the gas is fresh. Connections are tight and the gasket behind the big nut at the carb is in tact. I can't tell exactly where its leaking. I took the carb off last week to check it out and also removed the acc. pump. Could it be leaking there? I removed the front of the carb this morning and checked the acc. pump to see if it was tight and it seemed to be but I was thinking that the diaphram is leaking around the edge after reinstall. Any other ideas?

Re: Carb Leak

All of the accel pump housing and diaphragm is at the bottom of the fuel bowl so yes if the diaphragm is torn or was not flat when the housing was tightened down then it can leak there.

One thing to consider is how the accel pump linkage play was adjusted. There is supposed to be some play between the lever and the diaphgragm at full throttle. If the lever can bottom out the diaphragm before full throttle then damage can occur which can range from bent lever or linkage to torn diaphragm.
