carb loads up with fuel after idling through no wake zone

I took the boat out for the first time this morning and it ran great but after idling through no wake zones and then accelerating it would die and only restart with throttle fully opened. It is a brand new remanufactured 2bbl mercarb on a 5.0. Is there a way to adjust for that and it did seem to be running a little rich? thanks

Sounds rich to me. Have you downloaded the service manual?

Did you adjust the idle mixture when you first installed the carb, if not, then that would be the place to start.
When was the last time you did a full tuneup? Carb adjustment won't help much on an engine with a weak ignition system.
Might also want to be sure the choke is opening completely, and maybe even do a compression test on the enigne to make sure it's ok.

I do have the manual from the adults only section, and the boat does have a brand new tune-up on it. I will start at the idle mixture screw first, thanks.

Ayuh,.... Not particularly.... Air mixture is air mixture...

The book will call for the mixture screw to be set at a baseline X turns from the seat. That is usually pretty close.

I finally got around to messing with the carb and it appears that the choke is not opening after the motor reaches temp. I loosened the three screws and turned the piece where the choke spring sits to open the butterfly but now the choke will not close. Bad spring?
