Wouldnt hurt to buy a manual for that motor, but I'll give you a little knowlege of what I know. I'm guessing that spring goes on over the needle to keep it somewhat seated.<br /> I have just rebuilt my 2 carborators on my 75 70hp merc, and I'm going on the way mine was. Mine didnt have a spring, but had something similar. Whenever I had bought new floats, they came with a card showing how much to set my floats that was attaches to some hinge type thing, that was connected to the needle. It worked like a spring. <br />Meanwhile while someone can come up with a better answer, find a way to put that spring on that needle because that needle has to stay seated, not loose.
