Carb not getting fuel? Merc 205 hp 4.3L V6 1986

Ok, so I've had a few threads going trying to get this running.

I think I have narrowed it down. Prior to me replacing the fuel pump filter and carb filter, (and plugs and wires which I don't believe are a factor) I could not get the engine to start. The first few attempts it would struggle and start and then stall a few seconds later. Then a day later, it would only turn but not start. So today I went to the store to get starting fluid. Sprayed that in the carb and then the engine would turn over but again stall almost immediately.

Now, when I was changing the carb filter I did slightly kink or pinch the fuel line. (the fuel line nut was stuck to the line and rotated the line with the nut) Do we think this slight kink would prevent enough fuel from getting to the carb? Or are we thinking fuel pump? (Remember it was running perfect in the fall before storage)

remove the line at the carb and direct it into a container and have someone momentarily crank the engine over, it should spray a decent amount of fuel (have plenty of rags down/available to prevent a large fuel mess)

Howdy,


Well, instead of wondering what's wrong, it might be better to try some things.

Disconnect the fuel line and connect a piece of clear vinyl hose to it and crank the engine to see if you get fuel from the pump.

If you don't, then check the filter, fuel lines, anti-siphon valve, and fuel tank for water/debris etc.


You could also try a different tank but I think you narrowed it down to the fuel supply.

So I disconnected the fuel line this morning and we do have fuel coming through at the carb. As mentioned above though, when I look down the carb I do not notice that fuel is coming in.... I am not sure if it is noticeable to see? But my thoughts are that if its coming through the line like that then it should be at least making it to the carb..
