carb or advance

1972 225 sterndrive 305 4,barrel carb. Goes good to about 3800 rpm then bogs down like it is running out of fuel. Advance is 22* 11* at idle. Should I give it more advance book said 25/ 30. Is it carburetor or dist. Thanks

Sounds like you may have a issue with the secondaries......... I think that's about the RPMs the secondaries kick in, You could remove the flame arrestor and have someone watch the top of carb and see if bog occurs when secondaries start to open.......... if so you have a fuel issue........have you replaced all fuel filters?

May be time for a good carb cleaning.....

Cleaned carb Doesn't the advance timing have something to do with the secondaries kicking in. I had a miss at 3k rpm increased the secondaries Ran a lot better no miss. Just started to cut out at 3900

Ayuh,.... Sounds like ya still got a fuel delivery issue,....

Timin' advance can be checked with a timin' light, though I doubt that's yer issue,....
