hey guys, we have a 4.3 1995 and part of my winter projects was to rebuild the carb. I bought a Bayliner Capri that runs well but looking back at the maint. records it doesn't look like a rebuild had ever been done...at least for a while. Now one thing I ran against is a bad black carb paint job...to the point the linkages were painted, the throttle return spring was painted...things like that... all in all a bad job and I am wondering if the paint affected the the movement. Anyway what is the feeling on repainting the carb? sand it down to the aluminum and leave it? paint it? I want it to at least look kinda nice whether it gets repainted or not.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

I repainted mine.. some say to leave it bare because the paint insulates the carb and makes it hotter (I call bs on that). The volume of air flow thru the carb cools it significantly more than just conduction/ radiation cooling.

You’ll never get all the black paint off that thing. Personally I’m not a fan of painted carbs. I’m more experienced with cars and don’t know of any factory painted carbs. The engineers most likely would have painted them all if it helped even remotely. I cleaned mine as best I could and left the remaining flakes. Mine seemed to have been painted with POR15. Most slipped off but it ain’t super clean.

the whole motor was hosed down at the factory with low cost paint. simply use a rattle can of engine paint.
