Hey guys! after almost a year, I finally got my 80hp, Merc 800 running. it's a '69 ser#2881497

With your help, I replaced the switchbox, wire harness, rectifier, and stator. (Pretty much everything electrical) I now have great spark, starts and runs at full throttle, but at idle while in gear it wants to stall. it almost sounds like its only running on one carb??? ( when I run it up to full speed, it sounds pretty good. I will switch out anything electrical, but carbs intimidate me. (my experince with them on cars has never gone well) Do you have any suggestions on some easy stuff I could try, before I start removing the carbs? I have the Clymers manual, but it's not really clear on where to start.

thanks
Bob

Yeah, did you adjust your float levels according to specs? Did you adjust your jet adjusting screws right? Is your timing right? Check these things and holla.
WOULDNT HURT TO USE SEA FOAM!!! :D :D :D

Carbs for Merc's are straight forward and easy.

When you disassemble one..leave the other intact..so you can see how it goes back together.

Set the idle screws @ 1 1/2 turns prior to reinstalling.

Then start engine and do any fine tuning.

TMD
