Carb problems - 90 hp 1991

I just rebuilt my carbs and put her in the water today. She was running great for about for the first half hour until I got back to the canal where I dock. I had to come back down to idol when entering the canal and she was having trouble idoling. I then kept stalling out when I tried backing in to my slip. I also noticed that the choke silencer was leaking gas form the bottom of it. Any one have any ideas on what might be the problem. Could one of my floats be stuck or the needle not seated right? If so how would I know for sure when I take it apart if thats the problem? Also would the excess fuel cause a low idol? When I started out my idol was at around a 1,000 RPM's and when I was at the dock it was around 500.

By choke silencer do you mean the air silencer cover? If so, remove the cover and pump the primer bulb,if you have gas running out of a carb you have a needle and seat problem. Gas should not run out of the carbs. You could also run engine without cover and watch for gas leak.

99% float out of adjustment. yes, it will effect idle, as the motor is flooding in fuel. read here >> http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=299680

Good comments. If any excess fuel drains into the bottom of the airbox, it will get ingested (recirculated) into the bottom cylinder through the air silencer hose. This excess fuel can tend to flood that bottom cyl and it can affect idle speed. Once you finally resolve your fuel leak issue/s, re-check your idle speed. If it is still idling at 500, the idle timing is too low and it will struggle to idle properly. The engine idle should be set at 650-750 rpm when in gear at normal rest in the water.
