carb question

Well I went ahead and started to disassemble my carb. Upon removing the bowl I noticed one of the core plugs was missing. My carb on the outside have holes on either side with metal screen covers which I think that one of the core plugs covers in the inside, but the hole on the other side the core plug is missing. Is this a problem or could causing one of my problems. It looks like the carb was serviced at least once before. The carb overall looks pretty clean so I am not sure that the carb is the problem. I am going to do some soaking with carb cleaner and wait for any of your thoughts.

Re: carb question

please identify your motor whenever you start a new thread, its hard to remember who has what.............the manual will have a schematic diagram, so you'll be able to see what goes where. or you could find it online at ishopmarine.com (just don't buy anything there that you could get at iboats). ;) communication will improve once you have that in your hands. could just be an open hole (my carbs have one).

Re: carb question

If it has the two orifice plugs and one is missing yes it can run like crap.
Need to know what you are working on for sure.
A picture is worth a thousand words in this case.

Re: carb question

My motor is one of those military one's (AML35D) I have attached a diagram of what my carb looks like. Item #4 say's it's a plug my I have a metal screen on both sides. When I removed the float bowl and removed the float on the inside one of theose holes had a plub in and other didn't. I was told from another forum that open hole is for atmoshperic pressure in the bowl. Is that true or should it be covered?

Re: carb question

I have rebuilt carbs, checked compression and did a spark test using an inline spark tester. Have found that the lower cylinder has a weak intermittent spark compared to the uper one. Is their anything else besides the coil that could cause the weak spark?

Re: carb question

If the diagram that you have is the right one for your carb, it ought to have exactly what the diagram indicates. A missing plug is going to cause major problems.

Re: carb question

Start by testing the coils dak. Simply swap them and see if the problem follows the coil, that is the easiest test that there is. If the problem follows, replace it. Let us know what you find.
