Carb Rebuid Question

I have taken the whole carburetor apart and I have a question. When I removed the acceleartor pump assembly, there was a spring below the accelerator pump but no retaining clip and no check ball. Since they were not there when I took it apart, should I put them back when I put it together?

Thanks.

Re: Carb Rebuid Question

If you are still working on the 2 barrel Mercarb, carb # 3304-9565A1. See the pic below.

Re: Carb Rebuid Question

not all 2bbl rochester and mercarbs used the retainer and check ball at the bottom of the accelerator pump well, ALL 2bbl rochester and mercarbs used a spring and ball assy under the venturi cluster like the above diagram.

but like DonS pointed out, there were many many carbs and designs since the 60"s, knowing yours would help.
