? carb rebuild 150 evinrude

I know i'm sucking air from someplace. motor running very lean, I have a hunch its coming from the carb side plates.The gaskets were replaced but they might not be sealing. How can i resolve this problem. is there a sealant i can use to seal the side plates. To do the job correctly i have to remove the carbs. does anyone have any advice on finding air leaks <br />thankyou all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connect a tach if you don't have one. Start the motor and while watching the tach, spray WD-40 on suspected areas. If you have a vacumn leak, the motor will increase in RPMs.

IBN<br />Unfortunately, the propellant in wd-40 no longer is propane and is not volatile. I know ether is not good for the cyls, but it is very effective finding vacuum leaks . My suggestion is to remove, inspect, clean, and tighten every connection from the tank to the carbs first. Then use ether (or a better substitute) for finding leak if problem continues. If carbs have not been off and redone in years, a removal, cleaning and rebuild can only help.<br />Good luck<br />Edit: I do remember one dude who used a butane pen torch unlit to find a vacuum leak. Whatever you use, be careful!!!!!

The intake manifold gaskets go on dry so it is imperative that the surfaces be clean with no traces of gasket material left. Also, check for any place that the may have a bump in the aluminum which would cause a gap between the manifold and and block. <br /><br />I agree with angus on check the fuel lines and all connections. Replace any lines that have become hard with age. These can suck air at connections.

i repaired alkl of the leaking side plates thanks to my buddy REEVES which has helped me over the last month,but the engine is not fixd yet now shell run for a bit and then just run out of gas. i am now looking into yet another air sucking leak , or abad vro ;;not sure yet

Since youre talking about side plates we assume (I know -- I know) you have a 60* 150 but lets make sure. Whats the model number?

It's a looper from the model number.<br /><br />Guyo...is the fuel tank vented ok? Primer bulb good? Connections at tank tight? <br /><br />When it runs out of gas, do you have to reprime the bulb and will it pump up snug? <br /><br />If you have a built in fuel tank, you might try and borrow a protable tank and fuel line and try that. Would eliminate the existing fuel line and tank if the problem persists.
