carb rebuild or no.

65 6hp Fisherman bought it late in the year. put in a new impeller and rebuilt the carb. Motor ran great. Loaned it to my inlaw to use on his sail boat. He returned it yesterday not running. It's getting spark and compression no fuel. Fuel pump is fine I am certain that there is crap in the passageway going to the needle valve. Don't know what he does, but the motor that quit on him has the same problem. There was nothing wrong with it when I loaned it to him. The question is can I just get away with pulling the float bowl and cleaning it out or do I need to rebuild it again?

Should be able to just clean the debris out. Check that the crap isn't in the high speed orfice. How did that much crap get past the filters?

Don't just pull off the float bowl.Take off all you can and clean.Just don't pull the core plugs again, and reuse the gaskets you already replaced.

No it was my can and gas. I wonder if he's made an enemy at the marina where he keeps his boat. On his motor he's had to have the carbs rebuilt 3 times in the last two years. The first time they thought it was gunk in the tank so he bought a new tank. This time I don't know. The other possibility is he doesn't burn that much gas in his motors. It's on a sailboat and all he uses it for is to get it out to the no wake buoy and a little beyond most of the time. Therefore, the gas he does buy sometimes goes two or three months in the tank before he has to refill. I wonder if the gas is souring on him.

gas itself does not go sour so easily, it's water contamination that turns it into orange goo and cruddy junk. If it is dry gas, in a clean tank, filled to the top, capped properly ,and stored out of the rain, then it will last for longer than that.
