Re: Carb Rebuild
When I took the carb apart on my 1991 3.0l merc alpha 1 Gen 2 following the manual that Don S. sent me, I immersed the venturi cluster in carb cleaner and guess what? Water was in it, It immediately seperated ( water and carb cleaner) as the venturi cluster soaked in the cleaner. The reason I brought this up is because I had read some earlier forums that said if you think that you have water in your carb, REBUILD it, cleaners will NOT remove the water. Unless there is more to it I find that this is true, I had tried everything I could think of, and I actually thought I had removed the water with chemicals ( probably did'nt help the carb either). The truth is I think carb cleaners and driers displace the water and some even say that on the can. But it is still in the carb in my case sitting in the bottom of those little copper venturi tubes. After finishing up with the carb around 3am, I took her to the lake about 11 am. You would have thought I had a new boat she ran so good, finally reached full WOT and increased speed from apprx 30 miles per hour to 37. Needless to say I was ecstatic, especially because I rebuilt it myself thanks to you guys and I saved a TON of money. The rebukd kit was on ebay for &47.00.
Thanks Don S. for the manuals and everyone else who lent a helping hand.
