Rebuilding the carbs on my 1968 65hp Evinrude Sportfour. I've got an omc manual but seems alittle vauge. Talks about leaf valve assenble but I don;t see it. Any one know of a tutorial for carb rebuilds. I talk with the machanic and he said not to soak the carbs in anything "omc recomended". How do u clean all the passages?
Thanks

Re: Carb rebuilding?

I was recommended non-chlorinated carb cleaner, then take some fine wires to clean out the small passages (on my 9.9 anyway). Then just blow them out with compressed air.

I believe the leaf valves you are talking about are actually inside the engine.

Re: Carb rebuilding?

These carbs are easy to work on but get a better manual. "Leafs" are located behind the carbs and carbs come off first for access. It's the last place I'd look. I don't think your carbs have fixed jets. That means you can unscrew the adjusing needles and get to the jets without taking the carbs off. First thing I'd do is drop the bowls and check for crud. Then clean and blow the jets out. Actually I think the needles just go into a seat for adjustment. Pro ob guys will chime in and know for sure.
