What carb can i use on my '86 Mercruiser 170? The Mercarb 2 barrel that's on there now is just shot and rather spending an arm and a leg on another, i was wondering if i can just use a GM carb or similar? Just don't know which will bolt up to that intake manifold. Thanks for any help.

- Jersey

Whatever you put on it make SURE it's a marine version. There are some remanufactured units out there. A good guy to talk to is Jack at Flagship Marine (800-282-2840).

Good luck!

Re: carb repalcement?

Hey Dhadley. Can you tell me the differece between a marine version and an auto version of the carbs? I didn't know there was a differce. I know there is a difference in the motors due to the fact of salt water circulation (gasket differences) and constant operation of WOT but i didn't think these things would effect the carbs, if thats what does it. Thanks for Jacks #.

- Jersey

It has mainly to do with where the fuel goes if the float sticks among other things. Jack is very familiar with the exact model your motor requires and can explain specific differences. Tell him I said hello.

Good luck!
