Force 125 1985

At RPM less than 2000~ my engine is bogging badly and dieing, and at idle speeds <1000rpm the bottom carb is spitting gas everywhere. Carb rebuild time or could it be something else? Also, squeezing the primer bulb will spill gas from the carbs. My engine has always died after being warm at idle, and I recently changed a reed in the gas recirc system.

Compression is 145 145 143 143

Yep rebuild time. Be careful on the kits you buy for that motor. There are like 5 different type of carbs that have different parts. You might want to post the model number for the correct parts. The needle valve is either not closing or your float has a hole in it and is sinking. When you work on the carbs only do one at a time. I believe they have different size jets.

Its a Tillotson. I've adjusted the float before and it matches with that drawing in the Clymer's manual. Sierra 18-7033 is the kit that applies I think.

Edit: Sierra part is wrong.

That kit is for 55 to 90 HP Force with cork gaskets. It also mentions that it wont work on carbs with pressed in needle seats. The carb kit for your motor would be FK10103-2

Is there a sierra equivalent to FK10103-2? Cheapest I can find is 38~ plus shipping. Would the 18-7037 generic kit work or do you know?

Replace the needle and seat with later style that has rubber tipped needle. If you mixed the main jets between the carbs, check manual for correct jet location. Clymer manual has this info. There is shop that used to be dealer in North Ft Myers, Florida that may have needle/seat kit or pn that can be ordered from Merc. His phone used to be 239-997-9880.

Re: Carb spitting gas force 125 1985

I resolved this problem by spraying carb cleaner into the seat and letting it soak on both carbs. There were no rubber pieces in the seat, only metal. I also solved my idle stalling problem I had before. The mixture screws had no effect until they were turned out a considerable amount, 2+ turns until any effect was realized and then I was able to feel the conditions mentioned in the clymers about tuning the mix. A few minutes later I could idle all day.
