One of the carb studs on my '76 Johnson 85 has stripped. Can they be replaced, or are they permanently attached to the intake?

Re: Carb studs

Helicoil do an external thread repair kit? That's good news, I thought they only did internal threads.

Re: Carb studs

Just unscrew the old stud and replace. On my '76 115 ive had a couple of these studs back out while taking my carbs off. Off coarse if it looks corroded spray some penatrating oil on it and let it set for a while. (p.s. My engine has had lots of work done to it before I got it, so do verify that your studs are screwed in before locking on the vice grips.)

Re: Carb studs

Follow Up:

PDS, the studs on my 85 are removable as well. Just for the record, the studs are 1/4-20 into the intake and the stud end is 1/4-28. Since I haven't located a new stud yet and I want to go fishing, I threaded in a 1/4-20 carriage bolt and used my Dremel to cut it to the correct length. I placed a lock washer under the nut and it seems to hold ok.

Now I just need to find a proper stud overt the winter and fild one of teh little plastic linkage holders (lost one somehow).

Thanks guys.
