1989, Bayliner, 5.7 alfa 1, thunderbolt ignition, Quadrajet 4 barrel. my Question is what "good" carb can i swap the Q-jet with that will bolt right to the existing manifold. Also what linkage changes would have to be made if any, choke operation changes? i believe eldebrock makes a carb for this operation but not sure if the bolt patern will work and if the linkage would have to be changed, also the spark arestor, would the existing spark arestor need replaceing? any expierence on this? Thank you!

I'm pretty sure that the edelbrock is a drop on replacement. They've worked with little or no modification every time I've used one. I believe they also sell a throttle linkage assembly for generc applications and when the factory linkage doesn't work out. I would contact their tech service people.

Best Regards

why swap? the q-jet is the best carb out there. if it needs an overhaul find a good older mechanic who knows carbs to overhaul it

Yeah, I agree the Qjet is a good carb, It took awhile for that to sink in for me what with all the Holleys, & Edelbrocks, available out there, but set up right, there isn't much to gain by swapping out. I guess from rebuilding a few, I got familiar with it like an old friend ;)

While I am partial to the edelbrock (my "old friend") it is a square bore set up and you will probably need to replace the manifold, or at least use an adapter. Then you still have all the little stuff, linkage, fuel lines etc.

I have to agree witht he above posters, if you are already setup for the Q-jet, rebuild it or if it is beyond repair, replace it with another one.
