I have new nylon/plastic retainers to replace the old ones in the throttle linkage. The old ones have some slop in them. This is for the throttle linkage only. The choke linkage retainers are fine.

What is the correct way to remove the old plastic/nylon retainers and install the new retainers?

This may sound simple, but I don't want to bend anything in the process. Thanks!

Just squeeze the bottom ends of the old retainers with a pliers and pop them out. Then push in the new retainers into the arms. Then pop the linkage back into them.
