I have just come across a set of carbbies for a 1989 v6 200, just wondering if i put these carbbies on my 1988 150 v6 will this increase the power to 200hp or do other modifications have to be made to the motor? i have just changed the prop from a 19" standard alloy to s/s 22" chopper and have lost a little bit of hole shot.

Other modification will have to take place.

just wondering what is the difference as they both have the same stroke and bore and timing, so the only thing i can think of is that the carbbies are are bigger to increase horsepower

To develope more horsepower with an internal combustion engine two things have to happen 1) increase the volume of the fuel/air mixture coming in and 2) increase the volume of exhaust gases coming out (generally speaking). I'm sure there are other mod's along with these basics (reed valves, timing/ingition, increase cooling, etc.). So carbs alone are not the answer. There would have to be some tuning done to the exhaust also(ports, expansion chamber).

the 150 ports were cut low, the front half sucks, and your tuner is really small.

if i were you i would install tighter heads and go up a few jet sizes.

if you want to get more involved you can install a 200hp tuner from the same size powerhead your running, 200 carbs, really tight heads, a 7 pedel vertical front half from a 200 or 225, and go up a decent amount in the jet sizes< you will have to play around with the jets to get it right...

you can make at or around 200 hp with these mods.... if you adjust the port timing you can make over 225 hp at the prop.. you could also add finger ports for extra cooling :)

depending on what year we are talking about you can also disable the timing retard to get more punch at over 4k rpm

Thank for the replies, sounds fairly involved, might be just easier to get a 200hp powerhead if one comes up. i took the boat out yesturday for a test run and it still achieved 61.3mph at 6000 rpm so i would be thinking that the engine is not labouring with the 22" prop but the hole shot problem is being coarsed by the cavitation from the chopper style propeller as it doesnt have the through prop exhuast.
