Should carbs be wide open at full throttle? Mine are like 3/4 of the way open. this is with the motor not started. motor is 1977 mercury 1150. It has not ran right meaning it thought it was not getting full throttle when out running it so i decided to see if the throttle blades were fully open without starting the motor. please advise thanks.

Yes, the throttle plates should be fully open at WOT. If they are not fully open, you need to do a link and sync to get things right.

The throttle plates on that motor will be 9/10 open, at WOT. No more!

Set the throttle stop screw so that the carb stops just barely touch at WOT.

Sorry about the bad info. I didn't know that the throttle plates are only at 9/10 open at WOT on this motor. Learned something new. The link and sync instructions for your motor is the best source for setting up the carbs anyway and they would have kept you right.

No, open them by hand all the way against the carb stops. Now crank down the throttle stop set screw until they just move off the carb stop. 9/10 is just an aproximation.....they are almost wide open...
