I have a '72 1150 115hp merc. The carbs do not have the economizer tube. Can you use the carbs from the newer models , like say the late seventies, that have the economizer tubes? Wondering about the compression ratios, fuel delivery...jet size...etc. Could this help w/ the hard cold starting of thse older inlines

No the carbs alone won't help the starting, if they were new enough to have the primer system they probably would. Yes they probably would need to be rejetted and if jetted properly and the right economizer jets the might help mid range a little.

Yeah, what about that primer system, can't you rig something in the economizer hose...I think I've heard somebody say about "teeing" into the hose and using a primer bulb??
