Carburator problems

Hi Guys:
Can somebody give me an education on how a 50hp Merc with 2 carburators feed a 3 cylinder engine. Everybody seems to think that the problem I am having is with the carb's. Big question is how the #1 cylinder is being foulded out. Is there a manifold plate behind the carburators. Can't really tell from the Mercury service manual I have.
Give me a shout. This old 1989 motor I have is giving me fits. Have already diagnosed and solved a number of problems with the help from iboats forum.
Thanks

Re: Carburator problems

Be sure you have spark on that cylinder.(packs have been known to lose a cylinder or two) Check the compression as well. Set the carbs carefully. I haven't had much luck with any other than Champion plugs for this engine. :)

Re: Carburator problems

Thanks for the reply. Plan on buying a Snap on Tool Spark Plug Tester to check the spark intensity and that it is firing all the time.
