I have a 4 barrel rochestor quaddrajet prob 7 years old. I do have oil by pass due to older enging so I really baby my enging chevy 305.I always clean arestor and carb after every trip Yes I am a fanatic. I noticed looking down the carb at idle only the port side of the carb was dumping fuel When I rev it both sides shoot a good spray down but when I slow down the port sides dumps more fuel than the starboard side and when I idle the star side is not dumping any there are two adjustments below but I believe they are air adjustments and not fuel or is it normal that this happens it was running rough last week at idle in water don,t usually idle around that slow died 2 times thank,s this forum is the best.

Re: carburator question

I just went through that with a 1978 Rochester on the 305. What year is your boat? Is the boat 7 years old or you been puttin' up with the problem that long? Where is it dumping fuel? Right out the top of the two brass fittings there? The primary fuel discharge nozzles? Look real close, some Bubba hammered on mine & I had the same problem & had to get a replacement. No, it is not normal. I never did get it fixed with a rebuild, couldn't find the replacement nozzles, it took a new carb. I'm sure it was that those jets were hammered out of shape & that disturbed the suction & therefore the flow through those orifices. They were also enlarged due to the hammering. The gas would go straight up before it got sucked down into the carb. What is the problem, performance wise, besides that you are seeing the flow difference?

Re: carburator question

its an older boat the carb I bought new so I know there is no problem with it being damanged when you start the engine and look down the carb dumps fuel I guess either out of the brass fittings or below them I do thinkj it comes out of those fittings you were talking about not sure how long it has been happening I de carbed the engine last week and when I did restart It was dumping fuel out of both barrels at idle not sure why it stopped
