I will be replacing the siezed engine in my '88 Starcraft Islander with a rebuilt '88 engine. The rebuilt has everything but the carb. Would I be better off buying a new expensive carb or should I rebuild? Need to know where the best place to find a rebuild kit is because we don't have any marine dealers close to us. Would greatly appreciate any advice or tips that would make this as simple as possible. Please post or e-mail me with any info. Thanks [*]null

Buck,

Don't know what type of engine you have. Usually rebuild is just fine. You should be able to get a kit from an auto parts store. JUST MAKE SURE YOU PUT BACK ALL THE NARINE EXCLUSIVE COMPONENTS SUCH AS THE FLOAT BOWL OVERFLOW TUBES.

Re: Carburator: Rebuild or new?

djohns19,

Rebuilt motor is an '88 mercruiser(GM) 3.0L, 4 cylinder. I'm also installing a rebuilt '88 Alpha 1 lower unit. Was wondering if it would be easier to install a new impeller in the lower unit before mounting it on the boat? The impeller worked fine when engine and lower unit were rebuilt but I don't want to take any chances. If it's easier to change before the lower unit is installed then I might as well do it now.
Thanks for the reply.
BUCK
