Carburetor Float Level vs. Float Drop

What exactly does adjusting "float drop" do?

I understand what float level does. I'm not so sure about float drop. Other than at some point allowing the needle to fall out of it's bore....what difference would float drop make?

I've noticed lately that everyone talks about setting float level.....but rarely is float drop mentioned...but it does appear in the factory manuals as another important setting.

It's easy enough to adjust it...I'm not complaining...I just want a better understanding.

I don't normally worry about float drop, the float will hit the bottom of the bowel before the needle will have enough room to come out of the seat.
