Carburetor leak

So I fired up my boat and found a rather large fuel leak. It’s a 1995 3.0. The carb has a porous leak right through the casting. The hole is right at the bottom center of the float bowl. Is there a good, safe repair that can be done? I’m debating using JB Weld on the outside of the carburetor to seal it up. Does that sound reasonable?

no

No. The only 'reasonable' fix would be to replace the carb body, or the whole carb. Any leak on a fuel system in a boat is dangerous beyond what you could imagine. Carb leak on a car, fuel drops out the bottom onto the road, no biggie. Carb leak in a boat, fuel drops into the bilge, accumulates and explodes... Not the ideal end to the day.

If there is a hole in the carb......most likely there are other issues with the carb if there was tgat much corrosion

Saw that before. A guys boat was running poorly, went to rebuild it. Found the bottom full of crud. After cleaning it out there were holes in the bottom if the bowl. Why it didn't leak was beyond me..new carb solved the problem.

Thanks guys. Sierra seems to have some reasonably priced new carburetors. I’m having a hard time which one I need though.

My old carburetor number is 05024-A-1. It’s a 1995 Mercruiser 3.0

Where is the best place to look this stuff up?
