carburetor question

I've got about six rochester 4-bbls sitting around that I would like to rebuild this winter. Rebuilding them is not a problem for me as I have done plenty before, the problem is I don't know what engine they came off of or are for. In other words some specs say for engine X the float has has to be X while it will be different for another engine. So my question is, how do I know what carb is for what engine.

Re: carburetor question

I *think* the serial number on the side of the carb matches to a specific engine. Not 100% sure of that though. It's a start, anyway.

Re: carburetor question

I had a Rochester serial number link that told what years and engines they were used on.
I can't find the darn thing now.
I think i found it through a Chevy truck forum.....sorry not much help.

Re: carburetor question

Outside of the carb model number and serial number look-up mentioned already, you would have to record what Primary jets and rods, and sec rods you find and try to match with whatever mfg listing available. Carb color should tell you what mfg. Black for Mercs, rods and jets listings are readily available.

Re: carburetor question

Marine quadrajets have fewer vacuum ports, and the marine calibrations tend to be on the "fat" side for performance and engine longevity. Automotive q-jets are usually leaner for emissions and fuel mileage. The power piston springs appear to be the same.
