Carburetor Rebuild Kit - 92 7.4L KC

Looked online at a few places and the carb for a 92 7.4L is obsolete as is the rebuild kit.

Does anyone know the manufacturer of the carb on a 92 7.4L OMC KC? Perhaps another rebuild kit would work? Is it a Rochester or Holley etc? Grasping at straws... How can I tell?

I changed my plugs today and noticed a few of them were damp with fuel. And I've read elsewhere in the forum this could mean a carb problem.

I'd like to purchase a rebuild kit, but if it's not an option because parts are NLA (which they probably are), can someone suggest a carb that will fit a 92 7.4L?

Really don't want to spend $500.00

Well, you can consider yourself lucky you don't have to try to fix a Spitfire ignition system!!

That carb is a Holley 4150.

Which repair kit do you need?

"0987313 REPAIR KIT" or "0986804 REPAIR KIT" ??

I looked through my handy-dandy NAPA marine catalog, and found that Sierra 18-7242 replaces 987313

AND 18-7241 replaces OMC 986804

So......just go up to the top of your screen, and click: MARINE STORE......

or click the following http://www.iboats.com/OMC-Sterndriv...7612533--**********.229570903--view_id.269316 and buy it from iboats and support our wonderful free forum!!!

Rick,
Thanks for tracking down the carb repair kit! If the ignition goes out, which I'm sure it will, I plan to take your advice and replace with a Mallory or MSD.

Bond-o,
Snapped a few pics to test your carburetor forensic identification skills ... My photog skills aren't all that great but this is what I came up with.

The repair kit doesn't look all that intimidating and I have my service manual ... what could go wrong!! :D

Once again, thanks for the information.

Carb kits are not hard to install of course........ The carb in your pictures doesnt look like a Holley 4150!!...........let me rephrase that.......the carb in your pictures IS NOT A HOLLEY

It does look like the WEBER on my Mercruiser though!

How long have you had the boat and does it look like someone replaced the carb with "something else"??

We bought the boat more than a year ago. Hmmm, not sure how to answer your question. Do you know how I could identify a Weber? Heading out to the driveway to see if I can find some markings.

I found what appears to be a W stamped on the carb along with the number 8867 below the W.

Re: Carburetor Rebuild Kit - 92 7.4L KC

It looks a lot like the one in the first link, electric choke, etc. If it does have the electric choke, is this something that can be adjusted?

Something needs to be adjusted regardless. It fires right up in the driveway, then idles rough like it's not getting enough fuel or being flooded. In has frequently stalled when going into gear (fwd or reverse). I can't put it in gear because I don't have a tool to take off my prop (in the driveway). So all I can do is start and let run, but it smells like fuel pretty badly. In fact, when i snapped pics earlier today, the flame arrestor had fuel on the top of it...just a little but it was there.

The choke is very easy to adjust. Also, if you only boat in summer, you can probably back it far enough "OFF" to take it completely out of the picture.

I disconnected and disabled my automatic choke many years ago. It's a little wimpy on start up but it's fine when it warms up a little.

I don't operate my boat in cold weather.
