carburetor trouble evinrude 3 hp yachtwin

fuel leaking from carburetor due to air silencer missing.Am i able to replace this part or even the entire carburetor? What impact if any does this have, my outboard does not want to start. She is an evinrude 3hp yachtwin I believe from 1964. <br />All replys greatly appreciated.

I don't think your leak is caused by the air silencer missing. You will find that your carb float needle is leaking or the float itself is US.<br />Pull the carb and remove the the float bowl, if you find a cork float replace it with a new plastic one. Give the carb a good soak in carb cleaner and blow it through with compressed air before re assembling. It would be a good idea to get a service kit for the carb and replace all of the seals etc while you have it apart.
