Carburetor Upgrades?

I've got a leaky carburetor, and the float is rotting apart- basically time to rebuild since it's never been rebuilt in 28 years. During the last 28 years since this engine was built I'm sure there's been improvements in the carb designs that may make them more efficient and possibly more power output, smoother idle, and a smoother transition from idle to power etc.

Is there an after market carb or any different carb I can look for (used) and rebuild/install on my ride? I hate doing any repairs without at least upgrading or modding a little bit each time.

By the way its a 1982 50 HP merc 3 cylinder.

THANKS

JOE

Re: Carburetor Upgrades?

Merc did not make a 3 cylinder 50 in 1982, 1986 was first year. That model(crossflow) 3 cylinder carb did not change on model years till 1991 when Merc went to a looper block and fed each cylinder with its own carb...

Re: Carburetor Upgrades?

Clean and rebuild/gasket the carbs. You have.
you will not find new/rebuilt carbs.
You can buy a complete kit with float.
