Re: Carlson glastron sp boat

I think your talking a late 70's Early 80's GT 160
16 feet with 85hp-115hp is good towards 55mph ( Bond had a 135hp on his)
a 60 hp will be a slow turd.:(
make sure it's not rotted out.

Re: Carlson glastron sp boat

The james bond boat was actually the glastron gt-150, the 15'er. That part is even mentioned in the glastron sales brochures from the 70's. I believe they were produced from 1971-80 and a few other companies have produced knock offs/reproductions of the design, which is what mine is. Also, glastron made many other similar looking but slightly different hulls in the same era.

I have one with a 84 mercury 90hp inline 6. You're right, the bond boat had an evinrude 135. My 84 mercury is more comparable to a 1970's 115hp since that same motor was rated at 115hp in the 70's when the hull was built before they changed from crankshaft hp ratings to propshaft hp ratings.

Do you have any pictures or have you seen it to verify it's the same one I'm talking about? There's nothing "deep" about this hull, it's a shallow vee speedboat hull. When on plane the boat sits very flat on the water(nose not high up in the air) with very little of the boat in the water. The hull is rated at a dry weight of 600 and something pounds. It's a small boat, easy for one person to move the boat/trailer around by hand. Super easy to launch and retrieve.

If the lake water is as smooth as glass, the boat is a dream. With the 90 horse merc, mine can really fly. It's small, nimble, maneuverable and responsive. The downside is she doesn't do so well in rough water. Because the boat is so light and so little of it in the water when on plane, you feel every wave when you hit it. Where a heavier deep vee bowrider will plow through waves without barely feeling them, this little boat bounces right off them so you do get jerked around on windy days when you're boating somewhere without cover. I have watched how other boats react when mine is getting tossed around by the waves so I know this to be true. Not dangerous, harmful or hard to handle by any means, just expect to feel it when the front of the boat bounces off waves.

I have seen other examples of these GT-150's powered by 60hp outboards so I think you will be fine there. My 1984 merc 90hp is way overkill, I don't even need to take it over half throttle to get it to plane quickly.

First two are the V153 and third is the GT150

Sometime in the early 70s, Glastron made an agreement with Carlson boats opr Joe-blow Carlson, designer I forget which exactly-- to make the Glastron/Carlson hulls which were very respected boats. They were about 16 to 18 feet long, looked very similar to regular Glastron hulls, and were relatively shallow vee go-fast boats. Very pretty and upscale from the Glastron models. One or two MAY have been in the chase scene from Live and Let Die, but they were NOT the definitive James Bond boat as shown in the photo above.

Rough water? Depends upon your tolerance and skill.

I have a V153, GT150, V163, and the little tri hull that went into the pool in the Bond picture (V145?). I have had the V153 in Lake Champlain and on the Chesapeake in waves from 1 Foot to 4 feet high. The big stuff is scary in a little boat like that.

I hope your wrong about the 60 hp statement in your first post. A 20' er with a 60 is way underpowered.

Re: Carlson glastron sp boat

Went thru brochures from 60's to 80's and didn't see anything similar. I have pictures on my computer but I don't know how to put them on the iboat forums. Is it possible for you to send me your email address so I can send you the pictures so you can look at the boat yourself. My email address is EDIT

Hit the reply button, then click the go advanced button. Scroll down a bit is a button called manage attachments. With that you can choose the pic off your computer and upload it to this thread.

Well, your only other choice is the G/C Conquest...the Conrithian didn't have the bow hatch from what I remember. The sales brochure even describes the bow hatch. I didn't realize they were that different...never actually seen one in person...even rarer most likely.

Re: Carlson glastron sp boat

Found the ad on Kijiji - Halifax. That is a 1970 Glastron Carlson Conquest. Only made 1 year. Has the same hull as the earlier Corinthian's, but with a bow hatch as you described. Assuming this is the boat. Did you purchase it? (Its listed as sold.) There's a pretty active Classic Glastron Carlson club that'd love to see more details & photos:
