Hey floks

My first post and my first boat.
I bought a 1991 FourWinns Freedom bowrider 19'
The carpet is trashed and I started tearing it up in a couple places, I assumed that it was just glued to the fiberglass but there seem to be at least some plywood especially around the center hole where the ski storage and fuel take is in the center of the hull. It is all rotten. My ? is how much plywood am I looking at dealing with. I don't want to get in over my head.

I started out thinking this was going to be a simple remove and replace some carpet.

If you know how to cut wood and also able to fiberglass that's a saving already, its how much wood is rotten and need's replacing is the question you can only answer

Oooo Wow Looking at that guys photos of his rebuild has be worried. His whole deck was plywood. Is that common for the deck of a fiberglass hull to be wood covered in carpet?
Anyone have a insite with a 1991 FourWinns

Pretty much all fiberglass boats, at least the one's discussed here, have a deck that's fiberglass over plywood

welcome, when we think its gonna be an easy this or that is when murphy shows up I thought i was just puttin a new deck in, now i have a stripped out hull in my side yard, read a few of the threads that have the stars on their header on the front page, that will give you some idea of what you may need to do, i hope you dont, but wood and water dont mix well, wood usually loses.
if you do have to do it your in the right place for help, plenty of knowledge and innovative ideas for your problems, need help just ask youll get plenty.
good luck, Dennis

I have an 89 Freedom and the deck was carpet over plywood. The deck was solid, but I discovered rot underneath when I removed the carpet from the ski locker. I kept looking and discovered I needed a new transom and stringers.
Hopefully you only have to replace a portion of the deck. If it is constructed like mine you have to remove the cap to replace the entire deck.
Good luck.
