Carpet Glue in Hot Weather

I'm getting ready to glue my old carpet back down on the new deck (plywood coated in fiberglass). I picked up some marine carpet glue at Cabela's and it says on the back the working temperature is 65 degrees. It is "not recommend to use on hot sunny days". Well it's july in Missouri, temps run in the low 90's. I need to have this carpet in in the next 2 weeks.

Anyone suggest an alternative? I've read contact cement is ok however I'm not sure of temperature requirements for it.

Thanks.

Old carpet on a new deck? How old is this carpet and was it glued down before?

Carpet has a limited life span and gluing down old carpet just to have it turn shabby in a short time doesn't seem worth it when you look at having to remove it and the glue left behind.

... but to answer your question contact cement will do a good job in hot weather and can be brought back to life by brushing on another coat if it sets too long, but at 90+* you should have about 30-45 minutes working time.

I only had to do the deck from the captains chairs back. The carpet is 20 years old but I'm really good shape. I am worried about glue coming through since the backing is worn. Is contact cement a good fit to not come through to much?

The boat doesn't have enough life to worry about replacing it again.

Contact cement can/will be absorbed to a certain extent and is best to use 2 coats on porous materials. Brush or roll the first coat on thin and you shouldn't have any problems.

When you say use 2 coats do I just roll on the first one and let it tack up then put the 2nd down?
