carpet glue

i ripped up the carpet to redo the deck.. well the guy before me put carpet on the sides..i wanna paint the sides as well as the deck.. whats the best way to remove the glue used to hold down the carpet..

Knotted wire wheel worked for me, spun in a 4 1/2" grinder.
