The Pros;
It feels good on the feet, is non-slip, and looks nice.
For the manufacturer; It is inexpensive and simple to install, and it hides all defects in the floor.
Making the floor inexpensive also.

The Cons;
It is hard to keep clean.
It fades in the weather.
It is moderately difficult to remove if you wish to change to another flooring product.

Snap in carpet on a fiberglass floor. Can't get better than that! All the advantages of carpet and no drawbacks.

With todays modern marine carpets, it is so convenient to install and equally easy to keep looking good for years. I had a nice bass boat some years back and it has some simplistic carpet installed, and the day I sold that bass boat (after about ten years of ownership), it still looked like new. Because I did keep it cleaned and well maintained. So carpet is going into all my boat projects for the nice looks, easy maintaining efforts and very cool and soft on the feet. It also makes the hull quitter then any other floor option for any boat. Todays carpets will last as long as most any paint your can apply. It dries very quickly and is resistant to rot and mold because of the material used. It comes in most any color under the sun, and very soft on the feet... What's not to like? JMHO!

Yup, this. My last boat had full glue down carpet and it was OK but a pain to clean. The new one has snap in carpet over a textured fiberglass floor. Really easy to take out and clean up and in the late fall when it is cold I just take the carpet out and let people wear shoes in the boat.

I agree that carpet has both positive and negatives. It is mostly only a problem for people that don't maintain and keep boat clean and dry. My last boat was 9 years old and was well used but also well maintained and cleaned. It looked like new the day I sold it. I am always amazed at the number of boats I see sitting in driveways all summer long with no covers and open to the elements. Some of them are newer and expensive boats. It is sad...

I personally don't like carpet in my house or boat. Inside or out. It's my lifestyle that is the reason. Sand, blood, and fish guts are much harder to clean with carpet in the boat. I go barefoot a lot. In the house I can make a mess of carpet.

Living in sunshine most of the time, anything other than white exterior flooring in the boat is too hot on my feet. It's a personal preference. Good luck!

Times 10 on the snap in carpet...you can snap in one or multiple sections depending on where you want padding under foot vs easy to clean locations.

I choose to go without, just fiberglass non skid. I like the self bailing, non absorbing, no odor features of having no carpet.

If there was any chance of fish in the boat I likely wouldn't have carpet either - but there is 0 chance of fish ever being in my boat unless they are in a leftover bag from the restaurant ;)

Why put carpet in a boat?

Boy, sounds like you're trying to start trouble........:laugh:

If I boated on salt I wouldn't have carpet unless it was snap in like I had on my 24 ft. Need some kind of carpet, otherwise I was blinded by the white fiberglass. With all the blood and guts you experience, I wouldn't have it either........

Up here, good luck finding a boat w/o carpet. At least the bass/walleye boats. Cruisers may not have it, or at least it will be snap in.

I like carpet......:p

Funny, the sun/heat isn't really a reason in Northern MN where most of our lakes are located. We are excited to get 80 degrees for the afternoon. 85 and we are ecstatic but 90 and we complain.

Fixed that for ya' jkust. :lol:

My family has a place in Northern Michigan - you're right: totally different up there. I can walk barefoot on aluminum most of the time if need be.
