Well once I get my new floor put down I plan on laying some carpet down. I bought new lounge seats and my questions is do I cut the carpet around the seat base or just put the seat over the carpet?

Re: Carpet Question

How likely are you to want to take the carpet up again?
If you'll need to take it up then it may be better to cut the carpet to fit, so you don't need to remove the seats to lift the carpet.
On the other hand if you're unikely to need to lift the carpet, or if the seats are easily removed, then laying the carpet and putting the seats over it is much easier!
I guess what I'm saying is there's really no right or wrong way, just whatever's convenient for you.
The only exception to this might be if the seat bases have to be sealed to the deck for some reason, floatation etc..., in which case you'd have to trim the carpet to fit the seats

I don't see manyifany reasons not to put the carpet down first. That's always the way I've done it...just a thought :)

Re: Carpet Question

Put the carpet down first. Most of those lounge seats have a box they sit on and the box has no bottom. So you would have to put carpet inside anyway. I miss my lounge seats. Great place for storage something my boat is in lack of.

Re: Carpet Question

I have never seen a boat where the carpet was cut out from around the seats. You would gain nothing by doing so.
Also if there was any shrinkage of the carpet in the future, you would have a gap, where it pulled away from the base area.
