Carpet question

I'm wanting to redo the carpet on my '86 ranger bass boat. I have no clue what weight the carpet would have been or what the best weight of carpet to go with is.

Any recommendations?

Also being that bass boats are fairly cut up for storage and live wells, how much overage is typically a good amount to order? **I might try to redo the bunks as well and if that's the case, that might dictate the length.

Is there also a glue recommendation?

The heavier the carpet the better it will look and last.

Outdoor carpet glue. I got mine at home depot.

Order 10% more than you think you will need.

dap weldwood outdoor carpet adhesive is what is usually recommended.

get about double the carpet you think you need

that way when you have an Oh-Carp moment you can move on and finish.

Was reading after I posted this on a site that is named bassboatseats that 20oz will go nicely over bend in hatches. They also sell a 28oz carpet. I ordered samples of both.

I guess as long as I don't procrastinate one I start, I can always order more, that site sells by the foot....I'd hate for brand or color lot to change midway through.

Then I'd be nice to lift boat off trailer and do the bunks, especially since one has a cracked bunk...not sure if I trust myself to do that or not. Might have to order the carpet and head to a lake.

I did my bunks in the parking lot at the boat launch once. I measured everything, had the lumber, hardware, tools, carpet and stapler ready. Launched the boat and walked it to the beach. Daughters sat in the boat and listened to tunes while I pulled the trailer up to the parking lot, swapped out the bunks, stapled new carpet on them, then took a boat ride to cool off.

My trailer bunks I used 2 4X4's and a floor jack. A long one under the hull. Short one between the one under the hull and the floor jack. It was really simple.
