I have a 21' Four Winds with open bow and desperately need to replace the carpet. I was thinking of buying a 20 oz malibu marine carpet with Dura-Flex backing. I will sew edging around the carpet and put the snaps in myslef. The sample carpet I received has a different backing then the one that came out of the boat. Again it has the dura-flex backing that looks like it has been dipped in rubber, the carpet that came out of the boat is a thicker rubber backing. My question is...... can i just sew the edging on the carpet and go or is there something else that need to go on the back? Any ideas on good carpet? Am off in the right direction with this carpet and is it just a new and improved carpet or should I look for something specific for a carpet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Carpet replacement

If you have the ability to bind the edges and install snaps ...... go for it.

Just remember that you might have to remove the carpets so they will dry out properly...... they tend to hold water.

Re: Carpet replacement

hello Hagan...

What year is the 4w...

Be careful of the backings on some carpets.. you wouldnt want to rub some against the vinyl ( black marks galore )

If you have the talent/resources of stitching heavy carpet..call four winns and ask them what they use..

I work with/for a 4 winns dealer..

YD.
