I have been thinking about using the engine room on my Carver as a storage area. Does anyone here know if there is a good amount of room?

I'm asking because I haven't really had the opportunity to and look. I bought the boat last fall and this summer has been a writeoff for me...medical issues.

I'd strongly recommend against using your engine room as on-board storage.

A) There are a lot of moving parts, from your throttle & shift cables to your belts. Anything that shakes or breaks loose could get caught in the inter-workings of the engine and cause a VERY bad day for you.

B) The exhaust / fuel fumes will make anything you stow down there smell like engine and bilge.

C) As mentioned above, flammability is a concern.

D) If something does break while you're on the water and you need to do maintenance, or you have engine issues such as fire or flooding, you'll not want a ton of stuff in your way preventing you from addressing the issues.

I was thinking about storing tools, extra parts i.e. belts, filters, lubricants, tools, etc.

A friend has a Trojan and stores lots in his engine room, the things mentioned above as well as canned food, fresh water, foul weather gear and probably more, but I've never heard him mention anything about odors etc.

Maybe some tools and spare parts but if anything breaks free in bad weather things can get worse in a hurry. I vote no.
