We left the house early last Tuesday. When we got to the launch ramp by the Queen Mary the Fog was thick enough to cut with a knife. No over-night slips in the area & it wasn?t safe to travel on the water without radar. So we drove to Alamitos Bay, launched there & got a slip for the night.
We phoned some friends who joined us for cocktails on the dock & Claire & I spent a pleasant night aboard. We got up early Wednesday & had a slow, 12 kts, smoooooth crossing. We saw some Porpoises and a little later a Whale. No pictures the camera was in the cabin & by the time we got it ready they were gone. Oh, yes about ? way there my brand new, just out of the box, Solas Amita 3 Plus, prop spun. I didn?t feel like changing it in mid channel so we slowed even further & arrived about noon (I changed props on the String Line).
Being off season and mid week there weren?t many other boats there. We aired up the dinghy and went ashore to re-supply, Our impromptu dock party the evening before almost exhausted our wine supply. The small market in town carries the essentials & they rescued us.
We returned Thursday, unfortunately no Whales.
Oh yes, we found they have a winter policy, Nov. 1 thru April 7 they remove the String Line, normally $25.00/night. However, in the winter, a boat up to 29 ft can stay on a mooring for a week for $58.00, larger boats are a little more.
Think I'll plan another trip for Nov or Dec,
