G'day folks,

I am a newbie to this forum so tell me if I am out of line with this post.

I have been browsing through the many pages of interesting threads and have found it difficult to determine which post headings refer to Fibreglass boats and which posts are for Wooden boats.

As I (and no doubt many others) am interested only in wooden boats I am wondering if it is possible for the administrator(s) of the forum to create separate categories within this "Boat Restoration, Building, and Hull Repair" category, to segregate between Fibreglass boat topics and Wooden boat topics?

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers.

Good idea!

Why not Wood, Glass, Aluminum subforums in the Resto section....?

Re: Category suggestion

Why not just click on Search this Forum and type in Wood or Wooden Boats. I will bring up ALL the posts on the subject that are contained in the forum. I suppose Breaking the forum into Categories Could be beneficial in some ways, but many of the methods discussed cross over ALL the boundaries between Aluminum, Fiberglass and Wooden boat building so no matter what type you are building the methods used are a great learning experience for everyone.

Let's see what all the other guys and gals on here think of the idea, they might want to see it happen.

I'm just sayin...:D

Re: Category suggestion

Well, I just did a search using the terms "wood" and "wooden boats" and it still turns up a mixture of posts dealing with boats of all types. Probably because most fibreglass boats have areas of wood in them as well.

I realise there are other boatbuilding materials besides wood and f/glass so I guess it is asking a bit too much to have the categories separated, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Thanks for the replies.

Cheers.

Re: Category suggestion

I think its a good idea , however the dedication , participation and knowledge from the members here have made up for the need of the seperate catorgories. on the other hand the search engine can use help in the progamming. for instance type in rubber raft you get every thing pertaining to rubber or raft. newbie or oldie, improvements always makes it better for all of us. :) [ sounds good to me !!! ]

Re: Category suggestion

We have very very few wooden boats projects on here. Definitely no need for a sub-forum.

I also tend to agree that making up subforums for wood/alum/glass etc. would uncheck there compatibility with each other. Therfore loosing some aspect in one application that transends another ( If Im say this right ).. there kinda intermixed here..

Best bet would just start a thread on what you need to know on your conditions ( wood boat or not :) ) .

Though I think there should be another subforum kinda like the " Completed Projects " but more in line with project that are not completed..just started OVER a year ago that keeps flooding out the newer threads with legit questions..

I mean..bumping OLD threads that have multiple aspects to the rebuild should be in there own forum ..IMHO..

Look at the top 2 days .. we have one guy that joined/started thread ( acutally IMPORTED his other Thread off another forum) and in ONE month managed to stay (bumping off new threads) on the top one day count for a month. 2k views..100 posts ( many of those were hour by hour blow bye blow and other "good job" bumps..).

I think a new forum for " the real new members that could use answers " would be a good thing. ( I would visit all the time :) ) .

I know that Iboats forums has ALL the info for basically Anything.

But just saying " use the Search function " was never IMO an option in the past here.. now it seems more and more that they should stop a thread and read.. Very much less Social here now a days ..

There are some of us that just want to help the completely new to boat resto/glass/repair and in general questions peeps..

YD.

Re: Category suggestion

I thank you all for your interesting comments. My query only concerned the fact that as I was browsing the forum the other day I found myself wondering where all the wooden boat people are? I seemed to be reading threads dealing mainly with f/glass boats. I have done searches using the terms "wood" and "wooden boats" but it seems to turn up threads dealing with all types of boat materials, not specifically wood.

I'd like to make it clear that I am not knocking the forum or it's admin. I think it is very well set up, easy to read and to use. There is a wealth of good advice to be had from all of the categories and I am sure I will benefit from them.

Many thanks to Woodonglass for the wooden boat image links, they are very interesting.

Cheers,
bluey.
