Re: Cats on a boat?????!!!!!
i've taken my cat out several times.
i don't think she likes it a lot though. she's taken to hiding when she hears the ice cooler getting loaded up. a sure sign were off to the lake. that said. she does get used to it when we do take her. but it takes about an hour or so. i'm quite sure it's the sounds that she don't like. whiney jetskis, boats with thruhulls, my boat at wot. after the hour goes by though, she does seem to get used to being onboard though. she'll come out of the carrier and roam. get her cat yummies, get a little loving, petting, attention. she does like to go slower though. my guess is cats can get used to anything though. like it, maybe, maybe not, used to it. yes.
we did take her to the lake when she was a kitten. just walk along the shoreline. get her used to the lake. she liked that. then we progressed to taking her onboard. we use a kitty carrier to transport her. one thing i'll say about the kitty carrier is that she uses it as a safe haven while on board. we don't have a cuddy and i think a cat would like that best. we do have a hardtop boat though, so there is refuge fwd. by the helm + she's made her own cuddy out of the under bow storage. she seems to like it up there. nice and close quarters, like cats like.
i do think if my cat was subjected to the boat every weekend, she'd likely get used to it. but i don't know if she'd like it.
a few pics of sazzy azz onboard..
note the harness, that's her life line if she get in trouble, or i want to control her. it also helped me find her one time. had her out by myself. was talking to a buddy on another boat side by side. looked down and she was gone. started to panic but then heard her bells/tags. she was still onboard, somewhere. i found her in the closed bow. on top of a pocket that my center window slides into. the pocket is parallel to the deck, but apparently there was enough space for her to get on top of the pocket between the front deck and the top of the pocket... the leash lead me to her, the harness let me pull her back...
full encloser makes me feel better about her not getting away, + i think she likes the close quarters it provides.
after a look outside to see nothing but water...
getting, got used to it...
a little snooze up front under the closed bow...
good luck with your adventure...
