I have a 1969 55hp rude on a 16 ft runabout the cavatation plate is about 1 1/4 inches below the lowest point of the boat. The motor brackets that I have on this motor are not adjustable but I have some that came off another motor of the same year that are adjustable. My question is where should the cavatation plate line up with the bottom of the boat and if I change them should I be able to pick up additional speed. Thanks in advance for your help.

A lot depends on the type of hull you have. I run a flat bottom and my A/V plate is 1.5 inches above the bottom. I'd say you can raise the motor to at least even with the bottom, maybe even a little higher.
