Why would a boat that never had cavitation issues in the past suddenly have a cavitation problem now? This is a 2000 Sea Ray 18' Mercruiser 140. This boat is in the water all summer at the dockside, so yes there is some growth on the exterior of the outdrive and hull. Neither the prop or anything else have been replaced and the trim works like it should.

You will be surprised at how the growth can affect the water flow. Cavitation is bubbles and smooth water flow is what is needed. Cleaning time..

How about coupler slip????? But usually not on a 3.0L.

I would clean the hull and drive. Its best to keep it clean so you do not loose fuel economy.

Thank you for the input. Cavitation is not an issue when outdrive is trimmed all the way down, so I don't think it is a slipping prop. If anything the engine is working a little harder at full down trim as the bow plows through water. I'll work on cleaning the out drive and hull.

Cleaning the out drive and some of the hull completely solved this problem. Thanks so much to everyone that commented on this topic, you were right on with the cleaning.
