I read few times that some boaters don't like hydrofoils (DoelFin - Stingray and others) because they claim that it could brake or damage the cavitation plate. I would like to hear experience of people that had broken plate because of foils - what happenned and in what condition it did - was it because of wrong installation or else - might help some other folks.

Smoky
;)

I think damage happens when you hit something.
Properly installed I dont think there is a
problem. My mother had one on her 50 Evinrude
for 8 or 10 years. She used to get stuck (and I mean STUCK) in the mud and rocks at the slip in
the fall.Never had any problems. Its My opinion
that probably 50% of the time you hit something you would break something any.
Maybe if you use brass bolts they would break before the plate.??

Spike,

I guess you are right whenever you hit something there will be damages, about the brass bolts I don't know if they are strong enough and what happen with warranty of the product after you don't use the proper fasteners ?

Smoky
