cavitation plate broken

I clipped a log last outing to the river. The prop grabbed a log, threw it up into the bottom of cavitation plate, and cracked it.
I have hit several logs with other motors and have never had this to happen. Should I wait for it to break completly off or should I get it fixed. What all is involved in replacing cavitation plate.
new motor can't stay new for ever.

Re: cavitation plate broken

Any good welding / machine shop should be able to repair it. Any pieces falling off later might get caught by the prop and result in prop damage or worse.

Good luck!

Re: cavitation plate broken

I have a small hole rusted through my cavitation plate on a 1969 johnson 25. Will this cause a problem with performance? Is it something that needs immediate attention? The hole is about the size of a dime.
Thanks
