cavitation/ventilation

Just thought I would throw this out there. A friend of mine has a bayliner capri (I know I know). His dad bought it brand new, so he knows the history, original prop, etc. He had a little something not quite right. He is very picky when it comes to anything with an engine on it. Took boat to a local marine mechanic. Replaced a bunch of outdrive parts. Still not right. Winterized and forgot about till spring. Found a different mech, this guy asks about a small spot of silicon on the underside of the hull (that my friend put on to cover a small chip), removed silicon and bingo no more noise/small vibration. (not sure what the symptoms were, might have included over revving) Turns out the silicon was deflecting the water away from the prop enough to slightly cavitate. Maybe this could help somebody else out there??

DougV>
