Hi Guys,

I started tearing out the old carpet on the Crest and much to my dismay, the decking started coming up with it. Looks to be delaminating and when you drill into the wood it is soft. Not that it was in the budget but i'm going to redeck now while i can. Don't want to be doing this again anytime soon.

I see i can order 3/4 8x4 CCA online for $95 a sheet delivered (to a commercial address....not sure how to handle that?) But, i would rather pick it up local so i can work on it this weekend. I am in York PA zip 17404. If anyone has any ideas or knows of any places that has a good decking for my boat please let me know. I don't mind traveling into MD or other parts of PA. Will post pics!! LOL

Thanks!!

i called a couple lumber places and they carry Marine Grade but not CCA...I don't want to use something that will react with the aluminum or cause issues. Seems that allot don't even know what CCA is??? Or they say it "should be fine" if i'm paying $500 i want something that "will be fine" :)

Does Crest have a lifetime deck warranty? They advertise they do have lifetime transferable warranty now.

To be honest I have never heard of CCA treated plywood, so I did a quick google search and found a website called restorepontoon.com. They seem to carry this CCA plywood and actually had a really thorough explanation of it. Looks like they can ship to your home and seem to be a fair price! link below may help!

Thats for the info. I think i might just pick up the normal marine grade plywood from my local lumberyard. They have it in stock but it's pricey at $89 a 3/4" sheet. The CCA stuff looks nice but I don't think i want to wait or deal with shipping drama.
Amazing that the CCA stuff is rated to last 40 years...if i get 8 out of the non-CCA marine grade i will be happy!

Between York and Lancaster County, PA, you should easily be able to find marine plywood. You're in an are of furniture manufacturers.

Just Google "plywood York, PA" and you'll come up with a bunch of plywood sellers.

If whoever you call doesn't carry marine grade, ask them who does.

Every medium and large city has plywood dealerships selling marine grade ply.

FYI: I had to redeck my toon about 3 years ago and no where in east Tennessee carries marine grade ply. After doing some research, I ended up going to Lowes and getting 3/4" Advantech sub-floor. They will tell you its not rated for that, but it works great. My toon has been used alot since the rebuild and the floor is still rock solid. No weak places or soft spots anywhere. It works great and is half the price of marine grade.

Wow. I wouldn't recommend the CCA, which has Copper, Chromium annd Arsenic.

“A study at the University of Turin in Italy found exposure of CCA-treated wood sawdust to rain water resulted in significant release of the chemicals and was potentially hazardous.

A 1984 study of the biological impact of CCA-treated wood on honeybees found that the bees had elevated arsenic levels and poorer winter survival when kept in CCA-treated hives.

A 1991 study by researchers at Rutgers University found leaching of CCA-treated wood in seawater retarded the growth of fiddler crabs and algae, and resulted in higher death rates for fish and snails.

The leaching research of David E. Stilwell, an analytic chemist at the Connecticut Agricultural Station of New Haven, Conn. found elevated levels of copper, chromium and arsenic in soil samples under seven wood decks built with CCA-treated wood.”2

Burning of the wood also releases these toxins in the smoke and the wood ash is even more dangerous containing around 80% of the toxins. The arsenic in wood ash is highly “leachable” and poses a serious threat to the environment and is capable of causing health damage and death to both humans and animals.
